Back to school at the Institut national des langues Luxembourg

Tuesday 20 February 2024 marked the start of the new school year for more than 8,000 students eager to discover a new language or improve their language skills.

For the spring semester, the Institut national des langues Luxembourg (INLL) is offering more than 500 language courses for adults, delivered in a variety of formats such as eLearning, blended learning and intensive courses, to name but a few. The full range of courses is available on the INLL website www.inll.lu. Courses are offered at 3 sites: INLL-Glacis, INLL-Belval (on the site of the Université Populaire) and INLL-Mersch.

The languages taught are Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Luxembourgish, Portuguese and Spanish.

To register for a course, subject to availability, any interested adult who is not a beginner in the target language must complete an online test and make an appointment for an orientation interview. These steps are necessary prior to enrolment in order to obtain a recommended level.

Appointments for guidance interviews are possible throughout the school year. Appointments can be made at www.myinl.inll.lu.

A new school year marked by major innovations and projects:

Launch of the Luxembourg podcast "Poterkëscht"

New SDLA-AUGMENTED application completes the Schwätzt Dir Lëtzebuergesch? series

The new SDLA application Schwätzt Dir Lëtzebuergesch?- Augmented, for tablets and smartphones, complements the SDL textbooks by offering an interactive and innovative learning experience. It allows users to scan pages in the books and discover new content, such as a variety of additional exercises or other relevant information related to the topic on the page.

The application will be available from March and will initially allow users to scan pages from the A1 and A2 books. A working group of INLL teachers is currently working on using the application for the B1 book.

B2 level added to the LLO.lu application

Since its launch in September 2022, the free platform for learning the Luxembourgish language LLO.lu has continued its success and now has over 72,000 registered users, 11,000 more than in September 2023.

Continually adapted to the needs of its users and enriched with teaching material, the platform also informs its visitors about activities linked to the Luxembourg language and culture organised in the region, as well as information meetings for the public or for trainers in the field.

For the new academic year in September 2024, level B2 will be added to the platform's teaching content.

Introduction to the new Liela method for INLL and SFA trainers

The national Liela in Luxemburg project between the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, INLL, the Adult Education Service (SFA) and Liechtenstein Languages (Liela) has entered its first introductory phase. Training courses to familiarise INLL and SFA trainers with the new Liela language teaching method are currently being run over a six-week period. Liela is a unique active and interactive method for acquiring a basic knowledge of a new language in just a few weeks, focusing in particular on exclusive oral use of the language to be taught. In addition to the training courses for trainers, the INLL and the SFA are committed to adapting the concept of the Liela method, initially designed for learning German, to the French and Luxembourg languages.
